DC Studios has dropped the official trailer for Clayface, a standalone feature centered on the classic Batman villain and led by Tom Rhys Harries in the title role.
The new trailer arrives just ahead of this week’s Comic-Con, where the James Watkins-directed film is expected to showcase additional footage and insights. The movie is slated to hit theaters via Warner Bros on October 23, positioning it as one of DC’s major late-year theatrical releases.
Clayface is set within the continuity of DC Studios’ current Batman universe, between Matt Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman and its upcoming 2028 sequel The Batman Part II, both starring Robert Pattinson. It follows the successful rollout of HBO Max’s The Penguin series, further expanding this grounded, crime-focused Gotham saga.
This film offers a new spin on DC mythology by reimagining Clayface, real name Matt Hagen, as a struggling actor whose face is brutally disfigured. While hospitalized, he is attacked and injected with unknown chemicals, triggering grotesque shapeshifting abilities and setting him on a path from rising Hollywood talent to vengeance-driven monster.

According to the official logline, the story tracks one man’s terrifying fall from emerging star to a creature consumed by revenge, emphasizing loss of identity and humanity. The film also explores corrosive love and the darker side of scientific ambition, suggesting a body-horror tone that leans into psychological and physical transformation.
Alongside Harries, the cast includes Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan in key roles. The script is written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, with producing duties handled by Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, and DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, plus a roster of executive producers including Michael E. Uslan, Chantal Nong Vo, Lars P. Winther, Rafi Crohn and Paul Richie.
